The National Association of Tourism and Hospitality Employers (VIMOSZ), the Hungarian Catering Industry Association (MVI) and Edutus University launched a joint GINOP project on 1 March 2021. The project focused on complex employment programmes aimed at addressing the severe labour shortage in the sector by supporting work–life balance, with particular emphasis on expanding the application of atypical employment arrangements.
In order to support the recovery of the tourism and hospitality sector following the COVID-19 crisis, it is essential to ensure access to a suitably skilled workforce. This requires making use of the potential within the country’s available labour reserves. The project sought to achieve this through the development and implementation of a programme designed to increase the use of atypical employment forms and support employment opportunities in these arrangements within the accommodation and food service sector. Based on the results of the programme, a methodology applicable nationwide can be developed to address employment-related challenges in the sector.
At national level, there is significant potential for the wider adoption of atypical employment forms in the accommodation and food service sector. However, many businesses are still unaware of the benefits offered by flexible work organisation models. Progress in this area can be supported by collecting good practices through employer interviews, as the implementation of selected examples can significantly contribute to expanding the use of atypical employment arrangements within the sector.
The aim of the development was to collect good practices supporting flexible employment in the accommodation and food service sector, and to present and implement selected good practices and new training programmes within the framework of a pilot project.
The development objectives focus on promoting workplace flexibility and opportunities for flexible working arrangements. They are therefore closely aligned with national and European Union strategic objectives related to economic development and employment policy.
